<span style="font-size: 14pt;">You’d be surprised how many iPhone users aren’t aware of
this, but you can tap the camera screen to adjust the focus. When you tap the
screen the camera doesn't just focus on the object, it also applies exposure to
that area of the photo so your photos should look much better. Once you have
this more or less right you can fine tune brightness and exposure by scrolling
your finger up and down on the screen – it’s just a shame you can’t get Siri to
control those settings for you enabling you to focus on keeping the camera
steady. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<b><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Use the Grid<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

<span style="font-size: 14pt;">Want a great landscape photo? Turn on the grid feature (<i>Settings
> Photos & Camera > Grid</i>) and remember that images can look
better if the horizon is in the upper or lower area of the screen (the classic <span style="color: #a31e22;">rule of thirds</span>). This also states that images
will appear much better when you place the main elements off-center within the
frame.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<b><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Vertical panoramas<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

shots, all you got to do is open the Camera app with your iPhone held
vertically and rotate it into horizontal orientation. Now you can take a
vertical image – just keep the arrow matched up to the line (and tap the arrow
area to reverse its direction).<o:p></o:p></span></div>

panoramic shot – just move your phone in the opposite direction to that used to
create the image. This may help prevent you accidentally wobbling the camera as

brightness can create unwanted shadows on what you want to photograph: switch

display on the spot you want to focus on, then holding your finger down on the
screen until the box bounces twice. Now the camera will retain those settings

trying to capture dramatic sunrises, sunsets or other intensely colored
subjects. HDR takes numerous images at various exposure settings and then darns
these together for a brilliant image. By default Camera app catches HDR shots
for you, but you can override this by taping HDR at the top of the screen.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

automatically recommend the best image based on various criteria, but you can

fragment of the movement and sound taking place at the time you captured the
image, like a short video clip. It’s a lovely feature but not always useful, to
switch it off just tap the yellow circle icon at the top of the screen, tap it
again when you want to restart the feature.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

There was a lot of buzz yesterday when Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, seemingly debunked the popular practice of quitting background apps on your iPhone to conserve battery power. While double-clicking and swiping to close apps is second nature to a lot of iOS users, when you shut down frequently used apps, it actually uses more power. Imagine if you had to shut down your car at every stoplight. Not only would you lose time starting up your car over and over, you would use more fuel, since cars need a little extra gas to get the engine running (yes, I know that’s not quite the case with modern cars; but I’m making a metaphor here). The same goes for iOS – an app needs to restore connections, launch processes, and get everything up and running. That takes more energy than if it was sitting idle in the background.</div>

The “Hey Siri” feature is one of the things I love the most about my iPhone. I use it multiple times every day. If you don’t, it’s time to switch back to summoning Siri with a press of the home button. What if you’re stuck with barely any battery, no access to power, and you just need to make sure you iPhone is ready for one more call to summon your ride or send one last text when you need it. Switch over to Airplane Mode from the Control Center. This will shut down all the pinging and searching and requesting that your iPhone does and turn it into a fancy iPod touch, essentially. Introduced with iOS 9, Low Power Mode is a god-send for those of us who use our phones all day, only to find it gasping when we get ready to leave for our evening commute home. Low Power disables “Hey Siri,” mail fetch, and a few visual effects to help your iPhone last till you get home. What’s nice about Low Power Mode as opposed to Airplane Mode is that you can still receive calls and messages. When you hit 20% battery life, your iPhone will ask you automatically if you want to switch to Low Power Mode. Currently, much of Apple’s iCloud luggage sits with Amazon Web Services (AWS) the leading cloud provider by a long mile, and also with Microsoft’s Azure too. <a class="external" href="http://www.crn.com/news/cloud/300080062/cloud-makes-for-strange-bedfellows-apple-signs-on-with-google-cuts-spending-with-aws.htm?itc=refresh" style="background: transparent; box-sizing: border-box; color: #c60018; line-height: inherit; text-decoration: none;">CRN, the publication which first reported the news</a>, claims that Apple is trimming its reliance on AWS by turning to Google. At minimum Apple would seem to be adding Google to the mix.</div>

Amazon, which often doesn’t disclose the identity of its customers issued a statement, implying that Apple hadn’t defected. “It’s kind of a puzzler to us because vendors who understand doing business with enterprises respect NDAs [non-disclosure agreements] with their customers and don’t imply competitive defection where it doesn’t exist.”</div>

CRN pegged Apple’s spending with Google between $400 and $600 million. One source simply said it was a “significant” amount. If the CRN report is accurate and the revenue figure refers to an annual rate, that would be significant for Google! The search giant doesn’t disclose its cloud numbers, but some analysts have pegged its total revenue last year at around $500 million.</div>

For Apple, though, the deal might portend a move to cut costs ahead of creating its own cloud storage system. Google’s cloud team is in deal-making mode, aggressively seeking to bring in new customers to use its cloud services, and may have sweetened the deal — or been more willing than AWS and Azure to concede to Apple’s demands. (And Apple, if anything, is good at aggressive demand-making.)</div>

Then there’s Apple’s next step. Morgan Stanley, in a note last month, laid out the tea leaves: Apple has announced three data centers opening soon, and spent an estimated $1 billion last year on AWS. It’s a logical move for Apple if it wants more independence from its tech rivals. And it’s one Apple should make to store the growing media libraries from its mobile, TV and TBD products.</div>

According to a source familiar with the matter, Apple already has a team working on this; it’s known internally as “McQueen,” as in Steve. It’s unclear if that project will materialize or when. But a source tells <strong style="box-sizing: border-box; line-height: inherit;">Re/code</strong> that the codename refers to Apple’s intent sometime in the next few years to break its reliance on all three outside cloud providers in favor of its own soup-to-nuts infrastructure.</div>

Apple has reckoned, one source says, that given the fees it is paying Amazon and Microsoft, it could break even with its own data centers within about three years, and not have the headache of negotiating with companies it considers rivals in other areas of its business.</div>

In the interim, the deal is a boost for Google, which has very quickly accelerated its enterprise business after hiring industry bigwig Diane Greene to run it in November. To date, the company’s cloud has largely targeted startups and small businesses, but is making a concerted sales push for larger clients. Last month, Google announced it had <a class="external" href="https://news.spotify.com/us/2016/02/23/announcing-spotify-infrastructures-googley-future/" style="background: transparent; box-sizing: border-box; color: #c60018; line-height: inherit; text-decoration: none;">signed on Spotify</a>.</div>
